Report Code : cm2049 | Publish Date : Upcoming | Industry : Chemicals_Materials | Geography : Global

Cyanate esters offer excellent strength and toughness better electrical properties and lower moisture absorption compared to other resins. If they are formulated correctly their high-temperature properties are like bismaleimide and polyimide resins. They are used for a variety of applications including spacecrafts, aircrafts, missiles, antennae, radomes, microelectronics, and microwave products. Their low dielectric loss and low water absorption are probably the main advantages with respect to epoxies, although these features come at a price. Cyanate esters are formed through the reaction of bisphenol esters and cyanic acid that cyclotrimerize to produce triazine rings during a second cure. Cyanate esters are more easily cured than epoxies. The toughness of cyanate esters can be increased by adding thermoplastics or spherical rubber particles.

Cyanate Ester Resins Market Outlook

The global cyanate ester resins market is observing significant growth owing to increasing demand for high temperature resins from the aerospace & defense industry. These resins have good processability, shelf life, and compatibility with a variety of reinforcements. The electrical properties of cyanate esters are also quite good, even at high frequencies. Because of their low dielectric constants and dissipation factors extending into the gigahertz range, there has been considerable interest in cyanate esters for high-speed circuits. Moreover, rise in demand for composite materials in various end-use industries is expected to drive the market for cyanate ester resins. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, several aerospace research groups including Lockheed, focused on improving the thermo-oxidative stability, mechanical strength, and durability of cyanates ester resins through end-use industry of acetylene- and phenyl ethynyl-terminated imide/isoimide technologies, PMR resins, BMIs, silicate-based polymer-ceramics and polyimide-based cyanate ester resins. However, the market is hindered by high processing and manufacturing cost.

Cyanate Ester Resins Market Segmental Overview

The report analyses the global cyanate ester resins market based on application, end-use industry and geography.

Cyanate Ester Resins Market by Application

Based on application, the market is categorized into composites, adhesives and others. Cyanate ester resins can be employed as composites for aircraft, encapsulants for microelectronics, printed circuit boards, etc. Moreover, cyanate-ester adhesives are available as either pastes or films. They are often blended or toughened with epoxy resins or other polymers and widely used for die attachment, underfill, and encapsulants. The thermal properties of cyanate-ester adhesives are superior to those of epoxies. They are capable of withstanding temperatures of 200 °C when postcured and have glass-transition temperatures ranging from 140–245 °C, depending on the curing temperature.

Cyanate Ester Resins Market by End-Use Industry

Furthermore, various end-use industries of this market are categorized into aerospace & defense, electrical & electronics, transportation and others. Cyanate esters are often used in applications requiring low dielectric loss properties, such as antennas and radomes. In the electronics industry, the cyanate ester resins are used as structural elements for radomes and other dielectric & electromagnetic devices.

Cyanate Ester Resins Market by Geography

By geography, the global cyanate ester resins market is studied across the countries of key regions such as, North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and rest of the world. In 2018, APAC held the largest revenue share as emerging countries, such as China and India, offer lucrative opportunities to market players, due to the growing urbanization and industrialization. Thus, significantly large population base, rise in transportation activities and increase in disposable income are expected to drive the growth of the market in this region. Furthermore, North America and Europe also hold significant share of the cyanate ester resins market owing to the rise in automobile production in Europe and increase in aircraft component manufacturing in North America.
