Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) is a sub-class of ingredients called amidopropyl betaines which consist of various fatty acids bound to amidopropyl betaine. Furthermore, this chemical is 30% active, aqueous surfactant solution, derived from coconuts and increasingly used in cosmetics and personal hygiene type such as shampoos, contact lens solutions, toothpaste detergents, makeup removers, bath gels, skin care type, cleansers, liquid soaps, antiseptics, and gynaecologic and anal hygiene type. In addition, cocamidopropyl betaine works as a surfactant, foaming agent, viscosity increasing agent, emulsifier and conditioner. Furthermore, the safety of CAPB has been assessed by the European Commission’s independent expert advisory committee and concluded that it is safe for use in cosmetic type. Likewise, in the U.S., the CIR Expert Panel concluded that CAPB is safe for use in rinse-off cosmetic type.
Recent growth of cocamidopropyl Betaine (CAPB) market has been fuelled by increasing application in the personal care sector and amplified commercial use as surfactant. They are used extensively in various personal types such as, creams, lotions, aftershaves, eye types, baby types, lightening, sensitive skin types, acne treatments, skin cleansing shower and bath types, hand sanitizers, hair removers etc. Moreover, they are also used in hair care types including shampoos, conditioners, styling types, scalp care types, relaxers etc. Betaine improves tight junction integrity and contributes to the inside-outside barrier and hydration status of the skin. However, allergic reactions from personal care types containing CAPB is hampering the market growth. Also, CAPB is very toxic to aquatic life, and residues may have long-lasting effects on aqueous organisms.
The report analyses the global cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) market based on type, application and geography.
