Radioimmunoassay’s (RIAs) are rapid, quantitative ways of measuring levels of antigen-specific antibody using a radioactively labelled substance. It is an in-vitro assay that measures the presence of an antigen with very high sensitivity. Basically, any biological substance for which a specific antibody exists can be measured, even in minute concentrations. RIA has many uses, including narcotics detection, blood bank screening for hepatitis virus, early cancer detection, measurement of growth hormone levels, tracking of leukaemia virus, diagnosis of peptic ulcers, and research with brain chemicals called neurotransmitters.

Radioimmunoassay Market Outlook

The global radioimmunoassay market is observing significant growth owing to surging usage of RIA in pharmaceutical industries, research labs, and contract research organizations (CROs). The market is further boosted by the need for quality and error-free results to ensure patient satisfaction in research labs and diagnostic centers. Furthermore, rising demand for high throughput and automated procedures would further provide significant growth opportunities to this market in the future. However, the market is hindered by high cost of the procedure and continuous innovations in various other immunoassay procedures such as ELISA.
